Marlon has been in the States for more than 2 years. Life is not easy when one's already close to 30 but still have no independence economically. She couldn't complain. She's living off her mom's saving. She wanted to work but she can't due to the limitations of her student visa. Luckily, the baby grows healthily and beautifully and becomes the source of happiness in her life. How about Mr. O? The following is what Marlon believes, or believed, until about a week ago. Mr. O is never the kind of person who would make phone calls. He called herless than 20 times in 2 years. That's alright, she can call him even though it's really frustrating. Marlon can't make direct calls because it costs a lot. She gets online phone card, which means she has to enter a 12-digits pin number every time before dialing his number. That's not frustrating. Out of 10 attempts, 5 calls would be dropped. If that's not frustrating enough, of the 5 successfully connected calls, 2 wouldn't be answered. That means, Marlon has to try at least 7-10 times, repeating the process of keying in the 12-16 digits pin, before getting to hear his voice. What makes Marlon really sad is: it seems like she always calls him at the wrong time. When she finally hears the familiar "hello?", he's always busy with something else. He's either driving, in the gym, cooking, eating, in the bar with friends, working in his banana garden, killing a chicken for dinner, or working with his farm animals. Marlon realizes that she's never his priority. That makes her sad. Why not using the internet? Mr. O told Marlon that he doesn't have internet access. There's no service provided in the countryside that he lives. Somehow Marlon believes all these. Although she's never been to his country, she knows that some countries in Latin America are not as developed as Taiwan. That's where they are now. They never officially break up. They still love each other. (Marlon loves Mr. O, that's for sure. As for Mr. O, he tells her that he does, too.) They can't afford visiting each other. (Marlon couldn't use her mom's saving to date Mr. O. Mr. O's money, is in Mrs. O's name.) Mr. O told Marlon that he would eventually get divorced and get together with Marlon and the baby.
