這是我一位台灣朋友的故事 , 我中文不太好所以用英文的
看不懂英文的就不好意思了. 對我來說翻成中文比較困難!
I was having dinner with a Taiwanese friend recently, and I asked him why so
few Taiwanese guys date western women. He told me that he only dates western
women. This is his story.
When I was younger I used to be a singer, and I was also doing some modeling.
I loved it, and I had a lot of great opportunities.
His voice was wistful as he recalled various highlights of his early
performance career.
I had a Taiwanese girlfriend at the time, and I was really in love with her.
When she told me that my singing career wouldn’t afford us a good lifestyle
for marriage, I agreed to quit singing.
Wow, he gave up his dream for her.
I loved her and I wanted to marry her. I would have done anything for her!
So I applied to a university in the United States to get a master’s degree
in marketing. I figured I could get a good job after I graduated and she
would be pleased.
So what happened?
After I had been in the States for six months, my girlfriend broke up with me
and married a rich Taiwanese guy.
The bitter resolve was evident in his voice.
That is when I decided I would never sing or date Taiwanese women again.
Many people have told me that when it comes to marriage, women in Taiwan face
enormous pressure to choose a husband that is financially solvent, among
other criteria. And men in Taiwan are not exempt from this pressure. Many,
like my friend, choose careers in what they believe will make them eligible
for marriage rather than pursue their true passions and talents
